On Location - CES 2015

CES 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada, kicked off the year with a bang. This year's show really pulled out all the stops with manufacturers demonstrating notebook technology unlike anything seen before. In fact, this was my very first CES in attendance where I had exclusive access to not only invitation-only VIP events, but some never-before-seen hardware that will be hitting consumers' hands very soon.

So for those of you who didn't get enough New Year's Eve partying, or couldn't find that awesome tech gadget under your xmas tree, a trip out to Sin City last week would have surely filled both your needs, and in my case, just made me get a little too much of it.

On Location - CES 2014

With the Christmas and New Years Eve festivities all but forgotten, I am once again back in the Las Vegas limelight covering the geek mecca known as the Consumer Electronics Show. As in years past, it was an awesome opportunity to do some great networking, check out all the newest hot gadgets of 2014, and get a serious dose of fun.

I was pleased this time around to see some very impressive notebooks from more than one manufacturer, among a slew of other great products and accessories. This year definitely holds a lot of interesting stuff to hit consumers hands, some of which I know I'll be taking a closer look at.

On Location - CES 2013

As seems to be turning into a common jaunt for me now, I'm yet again beginning the new year in Las Vegas marching through the halls at CES. 2013 introduces yet more flashy devices and new technology for consumers to drool over, never mind the endless armada of accessory bling and sometimes questionable vaporware.

This year continues the slate attack, fueled primarily by Windows 8. But while MS was absent from the show this year, advances from companies such as Intel made certain that new devices would be on display for both notebook and slate aficionados alike. With the show winding down for another year and the 150,000-or-so attendees leaving sin city in the dust, I can again look back on the week's events.

Lifestyles of the Mobile Road Warrior - Navigating CES

For anybody who has ever visited or worked a convention, you will know that there are certain unwritten rules to follow in order to make your experience a success. Love or hate the job, conventions are now the prime stage for companies to show off their latest product announcements, give press attendees exclusive hands-on access, and present some excellent networking opportunities.

Navigating CES in Las Vegas is no different. With show number three now on my schedule, here are some essential tips and proven advice for folks thinking about heading out to the neon mirage in the Nevada desert this week.

On Location - CES 2012

Las Vegas saw plenty of action again as the Consumer Electronics Show went into full swing this week in the Nevada desert, with tons of new mobile gadgets and companies there to show off their wares for 2012. Eager to build on my first experience from last year, I spent considerable time covering the exhibit floor looking at devices and meeting with both manufacturers and vendors.

While not everything at the show was being "on show", I managed to get a good indication of what users will be seeing later on in the year, and in some cases as soon as a few weeks. Slates continue to be a major theme as they were last year, but there were just as many new notebooks to show off as well. Read on to see everything I was able to find!

My CES 2012 Gear Bag

Less than 1 week left before I get behind the wheel again for sin city. This year I'll be traveling light, taking merely my HP 210 Mini netbook, HTC Touch Pro 2 smartphone and Energizer XP8000 battery pack. New in my gear bag this year is the Apollo 4G mobile hotspot from Clear (review coming on lgpOnTheMove soon), giving me always-on connectivity wherever my feet happen to take me.

Housing all this gear will be my versatile Solo TCA511-4 netbook case. Considering how much smaller this is than the gear bag CES hands out to press attendees, I may actually walk the show floor with the Solo. I'll have no problems snapping photos with the Touch Pro 2. Blogging and posting images will be child's play with the 210 Mini. And with the XP8000 riding on my belt with plenty of juice on tap, I've got all-day power for running both my smartphone and fast 4G hotspot.

On Location - CES 2011

The 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) kicked off this week in Las Vegas, Nevada. And for the first time this year, I have been fortunate enough to attend this important event in the tech calendar. While I'm certainly no stranger to Vegas or conventions in general, this show is special for me in many ways. It's by far the biggest convention I have ever attended, it's the first event to get coverage here on lgpOnTheMove, and it's the place to get the scoop on all the latest gadgets and technology to hit consumers hands. Last but most importantly, it's where I get to introduce lgpOnTheMove to product vendors and manufacturers.

My CES 2011 Gear Bag

Less than 1 week to go! Coming along for the ride is my HTC Touch Pro 2, Energizer XP8000 battery and Virgin Mobile MiFi2200. Shown underneath, my 17" notebook will also be accompanying me for getting work done. Rather than tote the red beast all day long, though, I'm keeping that secure with a friend!

As this is my first CES, I'll be traveling light on the show floor. Connectivity shouldn't be a problem with the smartphone + hotspot combo. The Touch Pro 2's camera is suitable for taking product photos in a pinch, and I'll have plenty of juice with the XP8000 on my belt.
